Inspiring
Women Series: Making a Difference in Business
London
- Savoy Place, Thursday 28th February
On 28th February, almost 100 delegates gathered for the
latest sold out event in the Inspiring Women series.
Delegates included a mix of business owners from technology,
media and service industries and corporate women from companies
including Shell, BT and McCann Erickson.
A Branding deity!
One of the themes of the event was branding and the first speaker
was Rita Clifton,
chairman of Interbrand and, as the host reminded
us, of whom Time Magazine said:
"If brand management were a religion, Rita Clifton would
be a deity"
Rita's main message was that branding is a central organising principle
of a business for both small and large organisations and that clarity
and consistency in the brand message is essential. During
the Q&A she also touched on the importance of personal branding.
Next up was Eugenie
Harvey, co-founder of We Are What We Do who
have also benefited from branding advice from Interbrand. The
audience was impressed by her passion and how the commitment of
a small team led to sales of nearly one million copies worldwide
for their Change
the World for a Fiver and Change the World 9 to 5 books.
Inspiring students!
In the interval, St. Marylebone School and St. Georges, Maida Vale,
winners of the FreshIdeas
Events student enterprise business plan competition were presented
with their prizes and were in for a nice surprise when.....
Eco-entrepreneur
... the final speaker, Kresse
Wesling, eco-entrepreneur and director of EAKO, Babaloo and
Bio-Supplies spotted the potential of St. Georges tree-free cards
business plan and offered to assist the students in developing it.
Kresse's businesses manufacture products with materials reclaimed
from industrial waste streams in the UK. The audience was very inspired
by her energy and enthusiasm for the environment and the potential
of business to make a difference to the planet.
Great prizes
Finally the evening ended with networking and a prize draw with
winners receiving prizes from 21stcenturydiva.co.uk
and Greenknickers.
